2019 Office Furniture & Design Trends

As 2018 comes to a close, we have been thinking forward to 2019 and the modern office furniture trends that undoubtedly come with it. While you won't notice a lack of traditional office cubicles, basic metal and wood desks, or plain-Jane office chairs in 2019 - You will however, begin seeing a jump in much more modernized office furniture. Expect to see an increase in workspaces and furniture that promote a more active work style, such as sit-to-stand desks and co-working spaces that allow employees to choose from several different areas to carry out their daily duties.

With 2019 right around the corner, here are some of the trends we at OFW have been noticing:

Shared Office Spaces

As the number of small businesses, freelancers, and remote workers continues to climb so has the number of co-working spaces. It was estimated that in 2018, there were 4,528 coworking spaces in the United States, this number is expected to continue rising and reach 6,219 by 2022. The typical '9 to 5' worker is becoming more and more uncommon, hence the spike in popularity of these rent-a-desk coworking facilities. People can come and go as they please, typically anytime day or night; this type of freedom and flexibility is appealing to many.

Coworking Space Furniture

The vast majority of coworking facilities are outfitted with:

  • Open concept lounge seating areas
  • Height Adjustable Desks
  • Reception Desks
  • Conference Tables
  • Rentable Locking File Cabinets
  • Ergonomic Chairs
  • Workstations
Comfort and Durability are the Key Factors

Cohabitation and Shared Workspaces

Modern-day tech startups have paved the road for this concept of shared workspaces, and simply following suit are all the traditional businesses which for years a maze of high walled cubicles was the standard setup. Companies are beginning to see the benefits of giving employee's the option of working side by side, such as increased productivity, more flowing creativity, and higher morale throughout the company.

Modern Integration into Office Furniture

Let's face it, it was only a matter of time before someone threw the word Bluetooth in front of something completely unexpected... and well, that day has come.

Bluetooth Height Adjustable Desks

Yep, no longer can your boss yell at you when you're poking around on your phone, you get to reply with "I'm just changing the height of my desk".

Height adjustable desks have been growing in popularity for several years now, and like anything, they have evolved. Your cell phone can now link up with certain sit-to-stand desks via Bluetooth and with a tap of a button, you can change the height from sitting to standing or even somewhere in between. You can make multiple preset height options within the app, you can even adjust your desk from across the room before you get to it. Some might call it lazy, we just call it cool.

Charging that cell phone just got easier too.

Many desks and conference tables are now offering built-in USB charging ports, 120v outlets for your laptop, and even ethernet ports for those needing a wired internet connection.

Refreshing Workplace Atmosphere

Companies want their employees to feel their best because when you feel great your productivity is great. One of the ways they're doing this is by creating energizing environments incorporating lots of natural light, office plants, water features and straying away from traditional office furniture material (metal and plastics) and opting to go with real wood. City dwelling employees are welcoming these additions, as it gives them a place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
